This is my first fanfiction. Please tell me what you think of it.
“Why don’t you make that blueberry shortcake again?” Lorelai asked Sookie. They sat at a nice table in the dining room of the Dragonfly Inn. Assorted papers lay all over the table.
I can’t make blueberry shortcake, it’s not a real dessert.”
“But it was so good the last time you made it.”
“The last time I couldn’t get the strawberries.”
“Ok, how about raspberry shortcake, or blackberry shortcake, or…”
“If you like shortcake so much, why don’t we just serve strawberry shortcake?
“Strawberry shortcake’s boring. Everybody makes strawberry shortcake. Sookie, we’re not just talking dinner like any other night. This is a special dinner. We’ve owned the Dragonfly for an entire year. The guests at this dinner will either think ‘Wow, for only having been in business for a year, these people really know what they’re doing,’ or they’ll think, ‘These people have been in business for a year, and they can’t even serve a creative dessert’,” said Lorelai.
“Yes, but…”
“Ooh, ooh! How about mulberry shortcake, or mayberry shortcake, or boysenberry shortcake, or boogleberry shortcake, or…”
“What’s a boogleberry?”
“I have no idea, but I’m on a roll. Ooh! Or…”

“Okay, who should we invite?” asked Lorelai.
“Well, Jackson, and Rory, Luke…” said Sookie.
“All painstakingly obvious.”
“Is Rory going to be home?”
“Oh yea. She’s coming home for Spring break tomorrow.”
“We should let Rory bring a few people from school.”
“Yea, Rory can bring whoever she wants. But let’s invite Lane and her mother. Lane will probably bring some friends, too.”
“You know who we should invite?” Sookie realized. “Mia! We haven’t seen her for so long, and she helped us a lot getting started.”
“Excellent idea! I’ll call her tonight! Maybe I’ll invite Christopher. Sherry’s still gone and he’s probably looking for something to do. He can bring Gigi.”
“Do you think that’s a good idea?” Sookie asked, “To invite Christopher? Won’t Luke…?”
“Chris is my friend. Luke won’t mind. Besides, a whole year in business! Chris would want to support me.”
“If you’re sure Luke won’t mind…”
“I’m sure. Now, who else do we invite?”
“Uh, should we invite your parents?”
“No,” said Lorelai plainly.
“Come on, Lorelai. Wouldn’t they want to congratulate us?”
“Sookie, my mother and Mia aren’t exactly best friends.”
“Oh, yea. That’s true. I still feel like we should invite them, though. What if Mia can’t come? Besides, they’ll find out anyway, right?
“Probably. Let’s find out if Mia’s coming first, and we’ll take it from there.”
“Okay.”
“Now, we should invite Morey and Babette, Patty, Taylor, Kirk and Lulu and… whoever else wants to come that we like.
Lorelai got out of her Jeep and walked up to her door. She unlocked her door and went in. The first thing she did was walk over to the phone and start dialing.
“Hello?”
“Hi, Mia?” Lorelai asks over the phone. “It’s Lorelai.”
“Lorelai! It’s been far too long. How are you?”
“I’m great, actually. How are you?”
“Oh, I’m fine. So, when was the last time we talked?”
“It’s been at least a year. Actually, that’s why I called. Sookie and I have owned the Dragonfly for a year on Saturday.”
“Oh, that’s wonderful Lorelai. I’m sure the two of you are very successful,” said Mia.
“Yea. Actually, we’re having a dinner to celebrate it. We’d love it if you could be there.”
“Oh, I’d just love to. I haven’t seen you or Rory. How is Rory, by the way?
“She’s great. She’s going to Yale now.”
“Yale! That’s a great school. I’ve always known she was a bright girl.”
“Yea. She’s great. So, do you think you can make it?”
“Next Saturday, did you say?”
“Yes, the dinner’s next Saturday, but you can come earlier and hang out if you want. I can get you a really great room at the inn,” said Lorelai.
“Well, I would hope so,” Mia said with a laugh. “Let me see, yes, I can be there as soon as you’ll have me.”
“I say get here as soon as you can. Rory’s coming home tomorrow. I can get you a room tomorrow, but if you wait another day I can get you our nicest room.”
“I’ll go for the nice room. Why not? Besides, it’ll give me a chance to get packed and ready.”
“Great. Feel free to stay as long as you like too, you know that. If you don’t want to go home, you could be in Star’s Hollow for Easter. Taylor’s Easter egg hunt is ever popular.”
“I just might take you up on that offer.”
“Great. I’ll just reserve the room for you until… you tell me you’re leaving.”
“Excellent. I can’t stay forever, you know, but maybe a good two weeks couldn’t hurt.”
“Great. Can’t wait to see you!”
“Oh, I can’t wait to see you either. I miss you and Rory so much.”
“So I guess I’ll see you in two days!” said Lorelai. “Talk about short notice.”
“Yes you will. I hope I’m not being a burden.”
“Never! After all you’ve done for Rory and I, it’s the least I can do. See you then!”
“Goodbye Lorelai.”
“Bye Mia”
The next day Lorelai was sitting in her living room watching TV. Rory walked in and sat down beside her mother.
“Hi mom!”
“Hi Rory! Great, you’re here. I was going to call you, but I thought it would be kind of ridiculous since you were coming home today.”
“About what?”
“Okay, you know Sookie and I are having that big ‘We’ve Been Open a Whole Year’ dinner, right?
“Yea…?”
“You’ll never guess who I invited.”
“You’re right, I won’t. Just tell me Mom, you’re killing me here!”
“Mia. And she can come. She’ll be here tomorrow,” said Lorelai.
“Mia? Oh my gosh, Mia! I haven’t seen her in…”
“I know. Too long. But you’ll see her again tomorrow.”
“That’s so cool!”
“I thought you’d think so. There is one problem though.”
“How could there be a problem with Mia being here? You got her a room, right?”
“Yes, I got her a room. It’s nothing like that. Just that, when we were thinking up the guest list, Sookie thought I should invite my parents.”
“Oh.”
“Yeah, oh. She’s kind of right, though. As much as I hate to say it, I’m inviting everyone else I know, and my mother would somehow find out if I didn’t invite them.”
“Wait, everyone else you know? You’re inviting Dad?”
“Yes, I’m inviting Dad.”
“He and Luke don’t exactly… get along. You are inviting Luke, right?”
“Of course I’m inviting Luke, he’s my boyfriend. And they aren’t exactly best friends, Sookie said the same thing. But Chris is my friend, and your father, Rory. I should be able to invite him.”
“Okay, just so there’s no fighting. Speaking of which, back to Grandma. I do think you should invite her. Especially if you’re inviting Dad. He may fight with Luke, and Grandma may fight with Mia. It’s no different, really.”
“I guess you’re right. Wow. This could be an interesting dinner.”
