"7TH HEAVEN" IS LOCKED FOR TWO MORE SEASONS
"SMALLVILLE," "GILMORE GIRLS," "EVERWOOD," "CHARMED" AND "REBA" RECEIVE ONE-YEAR PICKUPS
BURBANK, CA (March 25, 2003) - The WB Network, in the midst of its strongest season ever, will bring back six of its highest-rated series for the 2003-2004 season, it was announced today by Jordan Levin, President, Entertainment at the network's development meeting with advertisers.
Powerful Monday and Tuesday one-hour dramas will all be back as 7TH HEAVEN and its creator and executive producer Brenda Hampton will return for two additional seasons, extending the hit series through its record eighth and ninth seasons on The WB. 7TH HEAVEN's Monday companion, EVERWOOD, a ratings and critical hit in its first season, also received a pickup for 2003-04 as did SMALLVILLE, GILMORE GIRLS, CHARMED and the hit comedy REBA.
"The long-term stability of scripted programming creates the foundation for any successful entertainment network," Mr. Levin said. "These renewals represent a blend of newcomers and veteran shows that continue to attract loyal audiences."
7TH HEAVEN has been The WB's highest- or second highest-rated program for the past five seasons, while EVERWOOD has proven a perfect companion to 7TH HEAVEN and is poised for growth next season. The Tuesday tandem of GILMORE GIRLS and SMALLVILLE has shattered all network demographic records this season. Both these young series have benefited from additional exposure on The WB's Big Sunday. REBA continues to be the cornerstone of the network's Friday sitcom block and CHARMED has set ratings records on all three nights it has aired, a feat attained by few programs in broadcast television history.
7TH HEAVEN was created by Ms. Hampton who also serves as executive producer along with Aaron Spelling and E. Duke Vincent. The show is produced by Spelling Television, Inc., a Paramount/Viacom company.
EVERWOOD comes from creator/executive producer Greg Berlanti ("Dawson's Creek") and executive producer Mickey Liddell ("Go") and is produced by Everwood Utah, Inc. in association with and distributed by Warner Bros. Television.
GILMORE GIRLS was created by Amy Sherman-Palladino ("Roseanne") who serves as executive producer with Daniel Palladino ("Roseanne") for Dorothy Parker Drank Here Productions and Hofflund/Polone in association with Warner Bros. Television.
SMALLVILLE was written and developed by Alfred Gough & Miles Millar ("Shanghai Noon," "Spider-Man 2"), based on the DC Comics characters. Gough and Millar serve as executive producers, along with Mike Tollin, Brian Robbins, Joe Davola and Ken Horton. The series is produced by Tollin/Robbins Productions and Warner Bros. Television.
REBA was created by Allison M. Gibson ("Home Improvement," "Boy Meets World"). Kevin Abbott ("Roseanne") serves as executive producer with Mindy Schultheis and Michael Hanel ("Titus") for Twentieth Century Fox Television.
CHARMED was created by Constance M. Burge ("Savannah") and the series is produced by Spelling Television, Inc., a Paramount/Viacom company. Aaron Spelling and E. Duke Vincent ("7th Heaven," "Beverly Hills, 90210," "Melrose Place") serve as executive producers along with Brad Kern ("Hill Street Blues," "Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman," "New York Undercover").
