Hilary's 'Cinderella' Story
July 23, 2003
Before the clock strikes 12, HILARY DUFF transforms herself from wallflower to woman in an all-new update of the classic fairy tale, 'A Cinderella Story.' Tonight on ET, go behind the scenes of Hilary's new movie!
"It's a modern-day twist on the Cinderella story, but it's a little different," the 15-year-old actress tells ET. "My character, Sam, doesn't make her dress, like in the original. And she doesn't talk to mice, like in the cartoon."
In this version, the 'Lizzie McGuire' star's character moves in with her stepfamily after her father dies, "which is very hard on her. And she has to work at the diner that her dad used to own that her evil stepmother has taken over," says Hilary. "She lives in this life where she feels like she doesn't fit in. She has goals, but she just never believes like she can ever accomplish them because of her horrible family situation. [But] she overcomes that in the end and meets her Prince Charming."
That Prince Charming is played by hunky CHAD MICHAEL MURRAY ("Dawson's Creek"), soon to be seen this summer in 'Freaky Friday.' But instead of finding Hilary's glass slipper, he instead finds -- her cell phone? "My Prince Charming and I meet through a text message and through the Internet at school," explains Hilary. "So he finds my cell phone and puts posters around the school and tries to find me."
Of course, by the end Hilary gets to kiss Chad in the romantic finale: "He's getting ready to win the big football game and he runs up in the bleachers and [we] kiss and it's really sweet and really romantic," she reveals, adding, "I was nervous, though."

ok and heres another one
FlickChick: Fifteen-year-old tween superstar Hilary Duff, best known for playing the title role in the popular Disney Channel series The Lizzie McGuire Show, is about to start shooting A Cinderella Story for Warner Bros. The Texas-born Duff just parted ways with Disney and recently finished shooting Cheaper by the Dozen with Steve Martin and Bonnie Hunt; it's a remake of the 1950 comedy of the same name and is slated for release around Christmas 2003. Her new film is a variation on the theme of the classic fairy tale, set in modern-day Southern California. High school student Samantha Martin (Duff) is going through an awkward phase, exacerbated by the recent death of her father and an uneasy relationship with her mean stepmom and stepsisters. Samantha takes refuge in an internet flirtation, but when she discovers that her online sweetie is really Austin Anderson (Chad Michael Murray, of TV's Gilmore Girls and Dawson's Creek) she undertakes a major make-over into adolescent princess-dom before meeting her dreamboat face-to-face. Duff has said that Samantha is "...a different character than I've really played before. She's totally a plain Jane. And she has to deal with this horrible life, with her dad dying and her mean stepsisters and the mean mother. And she works at a diner. She's very lost. She meets this guy at school, and they start talking on the Internet. And it's really kind of a new-aged Cinderella story. It's not with, like, the cheesy slipper and the little cat or whatever. It's not like that. She finds someone at school she likes a lot, and everything starts to work out for her in the end." Director Mark Rosman's credits include episodes of the Lizzie McGuire show. A Cinderella Story is scheduled for release in 2004.
