Well, nothing happened to Jack's wife. This one night where this totally hot Italian chick tries to make out with him, he sort of walks away and confesses to Sarah that he totally made out with an Italian chick and he works it out that he's gonna be spending more time at home and loving her and then Sarah says she's leaving him for another man. So he cries.
AND THE MONSTER. Do you seriously want me to tell you or what? When we saw the monster, it was and Eko flashback. Boy, did he have an interesting story.

Yes, it is the black smoke. But I think the Black Smoke is really conceiling the monster, because when Eko faced it down, all these horrible images from his past and people he's hurt kept showing up. I think the monster is just your dark secrets and it thrives on you when you are "losing faith". Eko was gaining his back, that's why the monster didn't eat him.
Am I making sense?
You can find the transcript at lost-tv.com. Oh yeah, in Jack's episode, there was an undressing scene.
